How to transcribe a video to text

Three steps to convert video to text, with no software to install.

  1. 01

    Choose your video

Drop an MP4, MOV or any common video or audio file. Big files are fine: the audio track is extracted in your browser, so the video itself is never uploaded.

  2. 02

    Let it transcribe

We detect the language automatically, or you can pick it. You can close the tab. The transcript waits in your history.

  3. 03

    Edit and export

Click any line to hear it, fix a word in place, then copy the text or download TXT. SRT, VTT and DOCX come with paid plans.

Edit the transcript while you listen

Every line is linked to its moment in the audio. Click a line to play from there, fix names and terms as you go, and your edits are saved automatically. Exports: from a plain video to transcript in TXT to subtitle-ready SRT — always use your edited text.

Everything you need from a video to text converter

Any common format

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI for video; MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG, FLAC for audio.

Large files, no waiting to upload

Only the audio track is sent, a fraction of the video's size, so multi-GB recordings start fast.

Timestamps on every line

Show or hide them with one switch, in the editor and in your TXT export.

Automatic language detection

Transcribe English, Portuguese, Spanish and many more. Wrong guess? Your first re-run is free.

Subtitle-ready SRT

SRT and VTT follow subtitle rules (max two lines, 42 characters, 1–7 seconds), so they drop straight into Premiere or YouTube.

Close the tab any time

Once the audio is uploaded, transcription runs on our side. Your transcript waits in your history.

Made for your own recordings

Long files you recorded yourself are where a good transcript saves the most time.

Meetings & Zoom recordings

Turn an hour-long call into searchable notes.

Interviews

Quote accurately with a timestamp next to every line.

Lectures & courses

Study from text instead of scrubbing through video.

Podcasts & YouTube videos

Get show notes and SRT subtitles from the master file.

Why Voxcribe: your video stays with you

ON YOUR DEVICE

Video file

Read in chunks by your browser. Never uploaded.

SENT

Audio only

Encrypted upload of the sound track. That is all we receive. We don't train on it, and our transcription providers are contractually barred from it.

AFTER 7 DAYS

Audio deleted

Your text stays in your history until you delete it.

See the output before you upload

Frequently asked questions

How do I transcribe a video to text?

Choose your video file at the top of this page. Voxcribe extracts the audio in your browser, transcribes it, and opens an editor where you can review the text, then copy it or download a TXT file.

Can I transcribe a video for free?

Yes. Your first file up to 10 minutes needs no account. A free account gives you 120 minutes a month, up to 30 minutes per file and 3 files a day.

Do I need to sign up?

Not for your first file. Sign in with Google to save transcripts to your history and unlock the monthly free minutes.

What file formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV and AVI video, and MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC audio. If your browser can't read a file, we'll tell you before anything is uploaded.

Can ChatGPT or Google transcribe a video?

Chat assistants can handle short clips, but long recordings hit upload limits, and you don't get timestamps tied to the audio or a subtitle-ready SRT. Voxcribe is built for long files: it uploads only the audio, keeps every line linked to its timestamp, and exports clean subtitles.

How accurate is the transcription?

[Accuracy statement after our English and Portuguese benchmark.] Clear audio with one speaker gives the best results, and you can fix any word in the editor.

Can I get timestamps or export SRT subtitles?

Every transcript has timestamps, and TXT export is free. SRT, VTT and DOCX exports are included in all paid plans and the minute pack.

Is my video private?

Your video never leaves your device. Only the audio track is uploaded, and it's deleted after 7 days. Transcripts are visible only to you.
